Inexpensive Web Hosting
If you are in the market for inexpensive web hosting then there a many things to consider so that you will have
a pleasant experience and fewer headaches along the way.
There are decent inexpensive web hosting services available today that offer some very nice features.
However, you should carefully determine what you need, and research the company before deciding on an
inexpensive web hosting service.
It's a simple fact that your business will be at the mercy of your web hosting service, whether it's an
expensive or inexpensive web hosting service.
Inexpensive Web Hosting: Things To Consider…
One of the most important factors in determining a good inexpensive web hosting service is the company's
customer service. Does the company provide a toll free number, live web chat and email support?
If your site goes down, you are going to want some answers - and pronto! It will be very frustrating if
you have no way of contacting the hosting service. Furthermore, you may experience problems with a script,
autoresponder or something else and you probably wouldn't want to wait for days to get an email response.
Other important factors to consider are megabytes of space, data transfer - also known as bandwidth, type of
control panel and any other features that you know you will need. In order to determine the best features for
your site, you need to determine the type of site you are building. Will your site be for personal or
business? Will you need to upload a lot of photographs? How many pages do you expect your site to
be?
If you will be hosting your site for personal use then you probably won't need as many features or space as a
site for a business. Although if you will be uploading a lot of photographs then you may need more space and
data transfer - as they take up more space than text.
How Much Space and Data Transfer Do You Need?
Some very inexpensive web hosting services really don't give you a lot of space (less than 500mb), or bandwidth
(less than 10 Gigs). However, there are several inexpensive web hosting services that do give you a lot more
space and data transfer than you will probably need if you are just starting out.
An average webpage with about 500-1000 words of text will generally be under 30 kb (actually my pages generally
run under 20kb) so you can figure that you would fit about 33 webpages for each 1 megabite of space. If you
will be uploading photos or graphics then you will also have to add those file sizes in to your calculations.
You can use the following formula to calculate how much band width you will need.
Average page size (kb) X number of estimated pages in your site X estimated visitors per month X 10% (assume
that each visitor will view 10% on each visit. To make sure you have enough band width you should
double this figure.
There is a lot to consider when selecting your web hosting so don't be too quick to decide on the first
inexpensive web hosting service that you find. Create a hosting wish list that includes all the features you
will need in addition to your space and band width needs.
Once you think you have found the best inexpensive web hosting plan for you search on Google and look for
complaints associated with that hosting service. You will probably find some complaints as things do go wrong
occasionally, however the fewer complaints you find - obviously the better.
